Why PressConduit says it can't reach my site
What "Can't reach us" means in uptime watching, how to let PressConduit's checks through your firewall, and how to switch off watching for one site.
You may see Can't reach us next to a site in your dashboard. It means this:
Your site is blocking PressConduit's checks. It may be fine for visitors.
PressConduit visits your home page every few minutes to see if the site answers. Some security tools see that visit and block it. Your site can be fine for real visitors while it says no to us.
What to allow
PressConduit's checks send this user-agent:
PressConduit-Hub/1.0
Allow the user-agent PressConduit-Hub in your firewall. A user-agent is the name a visitor gives when it asks for a page.
We can't give you a list of IP addresses. PressConduit runs on a service that changes its addresses, so an IP list would go out of date. The user-agent is the part that stays the same.
Fix it in 4 steps
- Find what is blocking us. Most of the time it is one of these: Wordfence, the security or bot protection from SiteGround, Cloudflare, or a firewall from your host.
- Allow the user-agent. Add
PressConduit-Hubto the allow list of that tool:- Wordfence: look at the blocked and live traffic lists for visits from
PressConduit-Hub. Then allow that user-agent, or ask Wordfence support how to do it in your version. - SiteGround: the bot protection can send a check page to visitors that aren't real browsers. In Site Tools, look at the Security settings. If you can't allow a user-agent there, ask SiteGround support to allow
PressConduit-Hub. - Cloudflare: add a firewall (WAF) rule where the user-agent contains
PressConduit-Hub, and set it to allow or skip the other checks. - Your host's firewall: ask your host to allow the user-agent
PressConduit-Hub. Tell them it is a monitoring check on your home page.
- Wordfence: look at the blocked and live traffic lists for visits from
- Wait a few minutes. PressConduit checks again by itself. The status should change to Up.
- Still stuck? Open a ticket. Give us the site address and the name of the security tool.
Menus change between versions, so your screen may look a little different.
Turn off watching for this site
You don't have to fix this. If you don't want alerts for the site:
- Open the site's page in your dashboard.
- Find the Uptime box.
- Turn off Watch this site.
PressConduit stops checking that site and stops emailing you about it. You can turn it back on any time.
